Abstract:

As a developing country, Bangladesh is emerging to compete with other nations of the world. There are certain parameters that are used to justify the state of development of a nation. Healthy environment comprises a major portion of it. Generally, all sorts of projects whether construction or any other places affect the surrounding environment. In the context of Bangladesh it is also a very alarming issue. This study carries out the overview of the current state of legislation about Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Bangladesh based on Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) certification. The procedure followed to attain the assessment. The environmental impact of construction projects and the drawbacks of the projects. The paper restricts its study of EIA for general construction projects. More in depth research can be done in order to obtain EIA for mega construction and other projects based on regional data analysis.
